Procedure for visiting SCMA

Throughout each year, SCMA hosts a variety of visitors from external units and organisations. These visits are a very important part of SCMA’s business, as they help promote a better understanding of its core task, which is soldier career management.

The approval authority for all requests to visit SCMA is the CO SCMA.

All incoming requests for visits are to be staffed through the Administration Liaison Officer (ALO) for approval.

Formal visit requests can be submitted to SCMA via signal (for ALO) or e-mail (type SCMA Visits as the addressee in Lotus Notes or from external accounts scma.visits@defence.gov.au).

Visits must be requested a minimum of three weeks in advance of the visit date to allow SCMA planning and approval time.

Dress for visits to SCMA is Dress Order 4A (DPCU Barracks) or Dress Order 2E (General Duties).

When a visit is requested, at a minimum, the unit should provide the following information:

  • The details of the unit making the request.
  • The details of the personnel who are to visit.
  • Who (within SCMA) the unit wants to visit.
  • The reason for the visit.
  • If the visitors require a meeting with the CO SCMA (all COs and RSMs will meet with the CO).
  • The requested date/s for the visit.

If the relevant SCMA personnel requested are available and the visit is approved, the unit requesting the visit will be notified by signal or e-mail.

Within the notification a Visit Sponsor from SCMA will be identified and will then act as the POC for that visit.

From that point, the relevant Visit Sponsor is responsible for all administration pertaining to the visit.

The SCMA Point of Contact for all external visit requests to SCMA or visit queries is the SCMA ALO, Mrs Jenny Smith, on (03) 5258 0407.
