North
Queenslands toughest
3 Bde
Commanders Trophy
By
Pte John Wellfare
THE winner of the 3 Bde Commanders Trophy is a step closer
to being decided with the completion of phase two and three of the
competition, the cross-country and obstacle course.
The
competition pits north Queensland units, predominantly from 3 Bde,
into competition in four fields: orienteering, cross-country, obstacle
course and marksmanship.
RSM
3Bde, WO1 Steve Ward, said the competition tested soldiers in both
their individual skill level and teamwork abilities, with the cross-country
and obstacle course being the most physically demanding phases.
The
cross-country this year was about 8km long and it was a very tough
course Brigade Hill is smack-bang in the middle of it,
he said.
The
obstacle course is judged on the best time and then penalties are
added for different aspects of each obstacle.
Obviously
we give fairly large penalties for safety breaches and about a 30
second penalty for someone falling off an obstacle, but we also
give a fairly severe time-penalty for people just running around
the obstacle.
The
marksmanship competition later in the year would consist of ten
shooters from each unit participating for the trophy.
Once
all four competitions have been completed, an average of each units
scores over the entire competition will determine the champion.
