Galloping into ex

THE Army’s Darwin-based 1 Bde kicked off its deployment to Ex Predator’s Gallop recently when it loaded ASLAVs and other equipment onto HMAS Manoora at Darwin’s Fort Hill Wharf.

The Manoora loaded a squadron of 2 Cav Regt’s ASLAVs and tonnes of engineering and other equipment for unloading in Townsville.

The equipment led about 2200 personnel and hundreds of vehicles from the rest of 1 Bde into Queensland for the exercise.

The Bde deployed by land, sea and air to the Shoalwater Bay Training Area in early August, before conducting Ex Predator’s Gallop 03, which included live-firing by 2 Cav Regt, 1 Armd Regt and 8/12 Mdm Bty, as well as brigade-level offensive operations.

Following Predator’s Gallop, 1 Bde roll straight into Ex Crocodile as the decisive combined arms force.

The opportunity to load vehicles and equipment onto HMAS Manoora came at short notice to the Bde, which seized the chance to practice deploying vehicles over long distances by sea.
