Commander Training Command – Army signed Land Warfare Doctrine 3-0 – Operations, on July 7.

The publication of LWD 3-0 – Operations follows the publication of LWD 4-0.

LWD 3-0 – Operations, is the capstone publication for the conduct of land operations. It expands on and supplements LWD 1 – The Fundamentals of Land Warfare, 2002, and complements doctrine contained in Australian Defence Doctrine Publication 3-0 Operations, 1998.

It is written for commanders, staff and those involved in capability development and training in the Australian Army.
This publication provides a framework for understanding the principles of land operations and the issues faced by the Australian Army at the operational and tactical level.

It explains how the Australian Army, using the manoeuvrist approach, applies military capability and describes the characteristics of and issues for success, in a range of operational environments.

It describes the spectrum of operations for which land forces can be committed in both warfighting and military operations other than conventional war. It addresses conduct of land operations as part of an independent ADF joint task force or as part of a coalition force.

Hardcopies of LWD 3-0 will be distributed to all Land, Special Operations and Training Command units and to a variety of Joint and Departmental organisations, in approximately six to eight weeks. An electronic copy is available on ADEL.

Army units can access current doctrine publications electronically on the Army Doctrine Electronic Library (ADEL) at:
http://adel.defence.gov.au/

New publications will appear on ADEL soon after their signing.

Information on current Army Doctrine (including, how to access doctrine in hard-copy via the Defence Publishing Service) can be found at the Doctrine Wing homepage at: http://lwdc.sor.defence.gov.au/doctrine/
