CPL Eve Kawana, Randwick Barracks, Sydney, impressed the judges at the recent 2003 Natural Bodybuilding and Figure Titles by taking out the Women’s Medium class in impressive form.

Cpl Kawana was also named overall female winner.

There are various categories in the ADF Bodybuilding and Figure competition. The divisions are separated by height and age requirements, including short, medium, tall, senior and grand-senior.

Males compete in the bodybuilding competition with judges looking for symmetrical muscularity. The women compete in the figure competition with judges awarding points for shapeliness and elegance. Currently there is no female bodybuilding category in the ADF competition.

Event organiser CPO Marty Karow, ADF PT School, said there was a record number of spectators.

“The auditorium was packed with nearly 300 vocal and enthusiastic people cheering the bodybuilders on,” he said.

“The popularity and strength of this once small event has prompted the organising committee to commence proceedings on getting it recognised by the ADF Sports Council (ADFSC).

“An application to have the event officially recognised will be submitted very shortly.”

He said if the ADFSC approves the event, it would help streamline the processes of obtaining approval for competitors and should help with obtaining service travel to and from the competiton.

“I have had an enjoyable time getting the title together for the past four years and look forward to returning next year as a competitor or spectator.

“Congratulations to all competitors. You displayed great camaraderie, humor and personal presentation.”

CPO Karow said the large competitor entry prompted the International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA) to provide five judges for the competition instead of the usual three.

“No longer can this event be regarded as a competition for novices, as the 2003 competitors displayed an extremely high standard of muscularity.”

Wayne McDonald, Australian President of the INBA said all competitors should view the titles as a celebration of great personal achievement.

The official 2003 Compeition video is currently in the process of being produced and details of how to obtain a copy will be made available in the near future.
