162 Recce puts safety first

By Pte Nicole Howard
A SAFETY day staged by 162 Recce Sqn’s recently ended in flames thanks to support from 3 Bde’s Emergency Response Squadron (ERS).

The ERS showed members of the squadron techniques in how to fight fires using various fire fighting equipment, including hand-held fire extinguishers, a 40-pound BCF extinguisher and fire hoses.

The training in response techniques to different kinds of fires covered drills and equipment, and refreshed skills among the unit’s members.

The squadron’s Aviation Safety Officer, Capt Richard Clifford, designed the safety day to encourage the development of a sound safety culture within the workplace.

A full day was set aside to refresh the squadron’s knowledge and promote discussion on regular safety issues in the workplace.

Topics included OH&S, first aid training, lifting techniques, fuel spillage, aircraft crash procedures and road safety, finishing off the day with the fire fighting training carried out by the ERS.
