Find
old friends
By
Cpl Alisha Welch
Members of the ADF are renowned for developing close friendships
and having to move around the country often but now there
is no excuse not to remain in contact!
Following
a huge number of requests from members of the Defence Force, www.schoolfriends.com.au
has launched a Defence Force section of the popular site.
Vicki
Dawson, one of the founding members of the web site, said there
were a number of requests from people in the ADF wanting to find
old friends.
We
organised the Defence Force section in addition to schools, workplaces
and clubs and its just taken off, she said.
The
Defence Force site has been established to enable those in the forced
to keep in contact with old friends and colleagues who can so easily
lose touch with each other because of frequent moving.
There
are more than 2500 units in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific
Region listing RAAF, Army, Navy and Joint Services.
Trevor
Dawson, another founder, said the web team had help from the ADF
in setting up the section.
The
ADF was really keen to have a central place where people could get
in touch with their old mates, he said.
This
is a first for members of the Defence Force and will assist with
reuniting old friends and assisting with organising reunions.
www.schoolfriends.com.au
is an Australian site set up by brother and sister Rob Barron and
Vicki Dawson, and Vickis husband Trevor.
The
three set up the site after noticing there was no Australian site
designed to help people track down old friends.
Today
the site lists every school and tertiary facility in Australia,
as well as the new ADF capability.
With
more than 740,000 members listed, finding old friends in Australia
and New Zealand is easier than ever.
