Doing it tough – or maybe not! Despite the challenge of the CSFA, a couple of soldiers still found the energy to smile and blow a kiss towards the camera. Just goes to show what the correct lead-up training can do

EACH year 3CSSB conducts various military skills activities to develop the essential soldier skills required of a soldier in the land Army.

Battle Week is a week of section level activities designed to test the physical and mental capacity of the soldiers. The conduct of Battle Week is essential to the continuing development of workplace relationships between the sub-unit sections. It is also an opportunity for the battalion to meet a number of AIRN and 1 Div fire power policy requirements.

Ex Vigilant Trail consisted of six stands: LOAC, method of entry building, passage of info, movement of a trailer missing a wheel, a shooting incident at the 25m range and erection of a 14x14 tent.

Various other military skills activities, including grenade practices F1/F3, qualification on LF3, 4 and 9, obstacle course, climbing wall and WTSS shoots were also undertaken.

New activities were introduced, including the night training facility and the conduct of water crossings in the pool and then in Ross River.

Everyones favourite was the CSFA, conducted at 5.30am on June 3, from the Mt Stuart Range Control Office out 7.5km and back. On completion of the CSFA the sections then returned to Lavarack Barracks to conduct Ex Vigilant Trail or one of the numerous other activities mentioned above.

Friday saw the culmination of the week with the COs battle run, a mixture of stands, including 20 questions (military and general knowledge), observation stand, first aid stand, stretcher carry, the assembly of various weapon types and obstacle course.

Battle Week’s overall winner was 6 Sect – Cpl Mackie and the soldiers from the field workshops.
