CDF Gen Peter Cosgrove and HPACC Jenny McKenry recently launched the Defence 2020 Protecting Australia’s People and Places education kit.

Defence 2020 Protecting Australia’s People and Places is an educational multimedia resource package designed to encourage discussion on defence issues by secondary school students.

Defence will send out 3100 curriculum-based packages to schools around Australia, containing teacher information, a student workbook, a video and a multimedia CD-ROM. In addition a community website dedicated to the program has been launched on the Internet.

The main focus of classroom activities in the kit is the Society and Environmental Key Learning Area for years 9-11, with emphasis on civics and citizenship elements, although the kit also supports activities in science, art and English.

Integral to the kit is a series of 14 national challenges to be held around the country, culminating in a national forum in October.
