JLU (SQ) keeps the green fleet running

By Tim Van Leuven and Steven Thrush
Last year JLU (SQ) kept their shoulders to the wheel, repairing 105 vehicles – 55 Unimogs, 40 Landrovers and 10 Macks.

These vehicles had been identified for return to JLU (SQ) for re-distribution as a result of the recent 7 Bde SED review and cross-leveling project.

A key priority for Project Manager ‘B’ Vehicle (PMBV) was the refurbishment of these vehicles to a serviceable condition, thereby significantly contributing to the enhancement of the B vehicle fleet.

The completion date for the project repairs is June 13, 2003.

The MM Branch working with the Contracts Management (CM) Branch to arrive at an innovative procurement approach that would satisfy Defence procurement policies, principles and practices and provide the required outcome in a short timeframe.

An RFT was issued to industry on December 4, 2002, and a contract valued at about $1.8 million was awarded to Mack Trucks Australia (MTA) on February 11, 2003.

Work began the following day, with 90 per cent of the vehicles removed from JLU (SQ)’s Bulimba Barracks site, to MTA premises over the following week.
