1HBS shaves the day
Maj Eraine LaGalle, 1HSB, gives in to the pressure and gets her head shaved by CO Lt-Col Len Brennan, all in the name of charity. IT SEEMS one of the Army’s favourite charities is the World’s Greatest Shave for a Cure, this
being the Leukaemia Foundation’s biggest annual fundraising event.

The cause involves participants shaving or colouring their hair to raise money for the
Foundation and this year participants at 1HSB, Holsworthy Barracks, managed to raise more
than $700.

On a spur-of-the-moment challenge, Maj Eraine LaGalle, OC Surgical Company, said if $500
was raised she would put her hair on the chopping block. The only condition was that she
would have to see the $500 in cash before going through with it. The unit accepted the challenge with a lot of enthusiasm and managed to raise the money within a few days ensuring that Maj LaGalle’s golden locks would go.

Maj LaGalle went through with the shave. CO 1 HSB, Lt-Col Len Brennan, started off, shaving half of her head, while Capt Dave Robertson, 2IC Surgical Company, who donated the most towards the fundraising, completed the other half.

The fundraising was assisted by members within the unit and co-ordinated by Surgical Company Medical Assistants, Pte Nicole McKinlay and Pte Bernadette Tarzia.
