Timely tax tips

The Defence Tax Management Office (DTMO) has prepared both the Bougainville and Solomon Islands Tax Supplements (supplements), which are based on advice from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and the Defence Personnel Executive (DPE). These are based on tax legislation current at the time of publication.

The purpose of these supplements is to assist ADF members who have served, are serving, or will be serving in the above countries to identify taxation exemptions available to them.

These supplements should be used in conjunction with the current ATO TaxPack and related publications.

Supplements are to be used by ADF members as a general guide only and are not able to be used as a legal authority in the event of any dispute between a Defence employee and the ATO.

An electronic version of the supplements and tax supplements for other countries may be accessed using the following intranet hyperlink:

If you do not have access to e-mail, you can contact DTMO during business hours in Australia (AEST) on freecall 1800 806 053.

The DTMO does not provide personal taxation advice.

If employees require advice on personal taxation matters they should contact their tax adviser.
