These
spooks are duds
I
Spy
Stars Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson.
Columbia TriStar. Rated M. 93 mins.
Reviewer: Ben Caddaye
A cocky professional boxer teams up with a US secret agent on a
mission to stop a notorious arms dealer and retrieve a deadly high-tech
weapon.
Sounds bizarre? Well, it is!
Im a huge fan of the very funny Eddie Murphy and most of his films
even the dodgy ones – are worth watching for his performance
alone.
But as hilarious as he tries to be – and he tries hard –
Murphy can’t salvage much from this doomed piece of cinema.
He plays undefeated middle-weight champion Kelly Robinson, who somehow
finds himself paired with spook Alex Scott (Wilson) on a secret
mission to save the world.
Try to imagine Beverley Hills Cop crossed with 007 and you’ll
get a vague idea of what I Spy is like.
Sadly, it’s not as funny as Beverly Hills Cop and not as entertaining
as 007. What was Murphy thinking?
Perhaps they should send a pair of secret agents on a mission to
save this ordinary flick.
