Right on the money

By Cpl Jonathan Garland

ON OPERATIONS? Need cash? Need to pay a bill back in Australia? Trying to run a non-public monies account?

If the answer is ‘yes’, you need to speak to the Deployed Forces Cash Office.

OC Deployed Forces Cash Office Capt Jamie Arnell said the cash office was able to do more than was commonly known.

“They can draw their pay by signing a pay sheet, with that amount being deducted from their pay at a later date,” he said.
“They can draw allowances in the same manner.”

Single members often worry about paying bills while deployed but the cash office can help with that, too.

“You can pay bills to a bank account or even an address by giving us cash or taking a pay deduction and the cash office will do what’s called a Remit.

“The Remit is faxed to the Enoggera Cash Office where they raise a cheque, which is taken either directly to the bank or mailed to an address.”

Deployed Force Cash Offices pay locally employed civilians on operations and can manage a trust fund for non-public monies accounts for deployed units.

Capt Arnell said not all Pay Corps soldiers can be deployed to a cash office.

“You have to have a specialist group of skills available only through training at the cash office in Enoggera.

“East Timor is currently the only operation to have a cash office and there are two in the country – one in Dili and one at Moleana.”
