Warehousing a big job

By Cpl Jonathan Garland

IF IT doesn’t breath and moves in or out of the AUSBATT-controlled area of East Timor, it comes under the scrutiny and control of WO2 Russell Pullen.

WO2 Pullen is the WO Control of all warehouses in East Timor and supplies the Australian contingent of the PKF and the Training Team at Metinaro.

“We have 10 warehouses under our control, located in places like Dili, Batugade, Moleana and Suai,” he said.

“Our job is to make sure stores get in to the country in a timely manner and get to the soldiers where they’re needed.”
He said they manage all sorts of materials, from spoons to mattresses to APCs.

“Stores arrive mainly in two ways – by an ADF air courier flight, which comes in on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and by a supply barge that makes the journey between Darwin and East Timor once a week.”

Once the stores are unpacked from containers, staff receipt the equipment on to SDSS, which produces a voucher giving instructions on where it is to be delivered and in what quantity.
