Free mail weight limit boost

ADF personnel deployed on Op Falconer can now receive twice as much free mail from loved ones.

The maxiumum weight limit has been increased to 2kg per item which can be sent free of charge through Australia Post to personnel deployed on Op Falconer.

Australia Post has advised that it may take a day or two for all of its offices to implement the new maximum limit.

This follows concerns raised by families who were unable to send items they wished to loved ones.

The free mail service is only available to families of Defence personnel.

Messages of support can be sent to Defence personnel via the Internet – messagestothetroops@defence.gov.au or fax 1800 643 938 and to families of Defence personnel via the Internet – ourfamilies@defence.gov.au

To date, more than 17,500 messages of support have been received.

PWs found in northern Iraq

US officials have identified the seven American prisoners of war found in northern Iraq on Sunday April 13 as five members of the 507th Maintenance Company and two Apache helicopter pilots.

The 507th members had been captured when their convoy took a wrong turn and was ambushed in Nasiriyah March 23. The pilots had been captured near Karbala on March 23.

The Marines moved into the area and found the soldiers walking along a road near Samarra.
