Transition scheme

When it’s time to move on to greener pastures, Defence personnel may require a helping hand and a little sound advice.

This support is provided by the new Career Transition Assistance Scheme (CTAS), which has replaced the out-dated Discharge Resettlement Training Scheme.

The new scheme provides more flexible benefits and much wider access to career transition information.

The emphasis is now on how to better employ knowledge and skills gained from defence service and to apply these credentials to civilian employment.

In line with all the changes, the former Resettlement Seminar has been re-named ADF Transition Seminar.

The aim of the ADF Transition Seminar is to assist members in their preparation for the big move to civilian life.

Seminars are conducted over three days and are held periodically in capital cities and some large towns.

A range of topics is covered including: superannuation, reserve service, taxation, health insurance, resume composition and job search.

Anyone can attend whether discharging or not, including partners, although it is recommended that anyone who is contemplating discharge within the next five years should attend.

n For more information and an application use the following form AD144 and forward it to your local Resettlement Officer or look at PACMAN Chapter 10 Part 7 or http://www.defence.gov.au/dpe/dpectap/
