A HASTILY put together combined ADF women’s team surprised ADFA’s women’s Australian rules football side, beating it by 41 points in the curtain-raiser to the Kapooka 12s grand final.

Owing to a lack of entrants in the women’s division, ADFA found itself with no opposition in the tournament.

A last minute call was put out, inviting any females at the ground to form a combined services side, which would play before the grand final between ARTC and HMAS Albatross.

Having never met one another let alone played together before, the ADF girls had a five-minute warm up before the game to become accustomed to the rules.

Given that many of them had no Australian rules experience, the side combined extremely well, dominating proceedings from the opening bounce.

In attack, the ADF was as entertaining as any team had been on the day, with several goals scored on the back of lead-up work that would have made an AFL team proud.

Meanwhile, a miserly display in defence restricted their more experienced opposition to just one goal in four quarters of football.

In an impressive display, the ADF ran away with the match to win convincingly 7-7-49 to 1-2-8.
