It’s Doctrine

Land Warfare Development Centre
Keeping informed

DURING the posting cycle for 2002-03, Doctrine Wing, LWDC, had a significant increase in military staff and is expecting a much-expanded capacity to draft new doctrine publications.

The Doctrine Validation Cell has also been established, allowing a program of doctrine validation to commence. This section’s initial focus will be on the validation of Developing Doctrine. Staff Vacancies in the section will not allow the validation of procedural level doctrine in the foreseeable future.

The following publications were signed since the last It’s Doctrine column appeared in November:

  • Guardroom and Detention Procedures (publication number LWP-G 0-1-8).
  • The Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (publication number LWP-G 3-3-6 Part 2).
  • Employment of Engineers (publication number LWP-G 3-6-1).
  • Grenades and Pyrotechnics (publication number LWP-G 7-4-42).
  • Hand Carriage (publication number LWP-SIG 6-2-1)
  • Land Electronic Warfare Systems Management (publication number LWP-SIG 6-1-2)
  • Recovery Handbook (publication number LWP-CSS 4-2-1); and
  • Weapon Drill – Rapier FSB1M (publication number LWP-CA (GBAD) 6-2-2).

As a result, these publications are now obsolete:

  • MLW Two (Eng) 1.1 Employment of Engineers, 1984
  • MLW Two (Inf) 7.2 Grenades and Pyrotechnics, 1984
  • MLW 1.2.7 Electronic Warfare, 1994
  • LWP-CSS 4-2-1 (Developing Doctrine) Recovery Handbook, 2001

    • Army units can access current doctrine publications electronically on the Army Doctrine Electronic Library (ADEL) at: http://adel2.defence.gov.au/
    • Information on current Army Doctrine (including how to access doctrine in hard-copy via the Defence Publishing Service) can be found at the Doctrine Wing homepage at:
