Its loud, hot and dusty but thats part of the territory
at the biannual Avalon International Airshow.
The
airshow, held at Avalon Airport near Melbourne, took off this year
from February 11 to 16 and once again Army aviation played a vital
role.
Armys
participation in Avalon 2003 included a static display by 16 Bde
(Avn) which included the always-crowd pleasing Blackhawk, Iroquois
and Kiowa helicopters.
SO
Avn Ops Capt Matt Grills said the display provided the opportunity
to raise the profile of Army aviation with the public.
The
guys loved the opportunity to interact and talk with people about
what they do, he said.
All
in all, the event was highly beneficial for us to have been involved
in.
For
all their hard efforts the brigade received an excellence award
for Best Multiple Aircraft display.
The
award was accepted by Deputy Commander 16 Bde (Avn) Col Philip Smith,
who said it was recognition for all the wonderful efforts the personnel
had put into the event.
In
addition to this, the flying display was equally well received and
offered the opportunity for 2 Cdo Coy, 1 Cdo Regt, to demonstrate
their skills as they rappelled out of a Blackhawk.
Lt
Stuart Mckay, 1 Cdo Regt, said it was a fantastic opportunity for
the company to gain exposure.
The
guys really enjoyed the opportunity, he said.
