INTENSE training and mission- essential tasks were completed by
members of 5 Avn Regts, C Sqn, before farewelling family on February
11.
The
squadron joined Operation Bastille physically, technically and
mentally prepared for their role.
5
Avn Regt 2IC Maj Rick Williams said a strict and necessary program
of aircraft modifications and personal readiness was completed
before personnel left the country.
The
regiment had incredible support from 3 Bde to help fill the gaps
and run training on weapons handling, IMTs and physical training,
he said.
Our
HQ 16 Bde, ASPO and ARDU provided the means and support for the
aircraft to deploy fully modified, tested and certified. Six months
work was accomplished in a reduced time frame.
Maj
Williams said personnel had put in the effort during their preparation.
Members
families from the regiment would be offered a range of welfare
services, from fortnightly lunches at the regiment to DCO and
DHA assistance.
The
families are a part of some operational briefs as well as community
service orientated briefs. We have a strong family network
at the regiment.
The
welfare package is based on the ones given during Operation Slipper.
5
Avn Regt deployment tempo remained very high with A Sqn remaning
in Australia for duties as required and B Sqn deployed on Operation
Citadel in East Timor.
I
would like to see the boys and girls come home sooner than we
think without a shot being fired.
