Kung fu fighting, fast as lightning

SOLDIERS who participate in martial arts are being sought to push the acceptance of martial arts as an Army-sanctioned sport.

According to martial arts exponent Capt Tom Grice, 1 Topo Svy Sqn, acceptance will depend on the initial level of interest shown by members.

“My aim is to get an expression of interest from the Army community as to who would be interested in training in martial arts for sport, if they have done martial arts before, if they have instructor qualifications and a preference for the type of martial art they would like to participate in,” he said.

Capt Grice has sent a draft proposal to the ADF Sports Council and is awaiting a response.

Eventually, he hopes to have Army personnel competing at local, state, national and international level.

If you are interested in martial arts as a sport contact Capt Grice via e-mail to thomas.grice@defence.gov.au or phone (07) 3332 6431.
