Quality
striped marlin are found all along the NSW Coast Line. They
are regarded as one of the best light tackle fighting fish
in the modern day game fishing fraternity. Their eating
quality is superb and is defined by many as a delicacy.
These fish average between 50 150kg.

fishing Hot Spot
There have been some reasonable reports of late about Marlin being
tagged in the more northerly parts of NSW South Coast region.
Marlin
have been know to travel extraordinary distances on a daily basis,
so it wont be long know before these Beakies traverse the
full length of the Southern Coast line.
Some
large sharks have also been tagged in the region, such as Makos
(Isurus oxyrinchus), the occasional Hammerhead (Eusphyra blochii)
and a few early Bronze Whalers (a member of the genius Carcharhinus).
Reports
like this may mean that the World Famous South Coast Game Fishing
Season could be in for its hottest season yet.
South Coast Estuaries
Fishing
legends Steve Starling, Kaj Bush and Ian Miller have been hitting
the Clyde River over recent weeks, fine tuning their soft plastic
lure fishing techniques in preparation for the BREAM tournament
to be held in February.
From
all reports they have all bagged good numbers for example,
Ian and a mate scored seven bream (Acanthopagrus australis) more
than 30 centimetres long, a heap of smaller fish plus a few other
species.
Best
technique was casting around the oyster leases by using the boats
electric motor.
Ian
noted that the lower end of the Clyde River seems to produce the
better fish.
Also
on the cards are some good whiting, some estuary perch and, of course,
the old reliable flathead and tailor (pomatomus saltatrix).
An
exciting note about the whole soft plastic lure fishing buzz is
that of the energy an angler can put into their fishing.
It
is not as simple as casting and retrieving your the lure, but in
fact it is about going fishing with a mate and perfecting competitive
techniques that can be employed during those specialist events like
the 2003 BREAM comp.
Other
techniques to be employed are that perfect lure selection, how you
manoeuvre the boat, precision casting and your method during the
retrieval.
If
you like excitement and a challenge this could be your type of fishing.
Snowy
Mountains
The conditions lately have ranged from quite hot to quite cold in
the Snowy Mountains and this has made life hard for most fly anglers.
A local
angler, Mudeye Mick, hit the middling bank arm of Eucumbene, about
35 minutes drive from Cooma.
Mick
guided an intermediate level angler for seven Rainbow Trout (Salmo
gairdneri).
All
fish were in excellent condition ranging from three to five pounds.
Mick
mentioned there was a caddis hatch as well as some mudeyes getting
around, which had the larger fish moving.
