Kapooka to host a feast of action

By Capt Amanda Gibbs
The Home of the Soldier is to host three significant ADF sporting events in February and March 2003, and invites teams from across Defence to compete.

With the assistance of Defcredit, Kapooka will conduct pre-season, national level competitions in the disciplines of Rugby Union, Australian Rules and Netball.

On February 22, the Kapooka 10s will be contested for the 12th year, conducting a knock-out competition.

The round robin competition will consist of teams playing games of two 10-minute halves with the traditional rules as written for U19 rugby. Registrations close February 21.

Because of the success of the Kapooka Super 12s Australian Rules Competition in 2002, male and female teams are invited to compete for the Kapooka 12s Perpetual Trophy in the second year of the modified Kapooka 12s Australian Rules Football, being held on March 8, 2003.

The competition will have national selectors in attendance, providing an opportunity for players to display their skills prior to national selection.

In addition, the game will consist of two ten minute halves, with each team expected to play at least four games on the same day. Registrations close February 14.

2003 will see a new sport brought into line with the 10s and 12s. Defcredit is to sponsor the inaugural Kapooka Sevens Netball competition being contested on March 15, 2003.

Competition organiser Sgt Steve Gibbs, encourages participation by male, female and mixed teams in what is to be a “fast and exciting spectacle” to watch.

Sgt Gibbs is combining a round robin competition with a shortened game, providing the perfect opportunity for teams to assess their preparation for national level selection.

Teams will be competing for a perpetual trophy and a first prize of $250.

In addition, and to promote a larger competition, the winning team will receive a bonus $10 for each team that registers. Registrations close March 7, 2003.
