2RAR
to host Battle of the Hook 50th anniversary
2RAR will host celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Battle
of The Hook at the battalions home in Lavarack Barracks, Townsville,
in July next year.
The Hook was a heavily defended section of the UN frontline during
the Korean War.
In July, 1953, Australian Soldiers from 2RAR, and US Marines from
7 Regt, held off waves of Chinese infantry while under heavy artillery
fire.
The Chinese attack on The Hook began on the 24th and was repelled
by the early hours of the 26th, one day before the Armistice was
signed.
2RAR Bn 2IC Maj Russ Lowes is inviting all ex-members of 2RAR,
2/4RAR, Durham Light Infantry and 7 Regt, USMC, to attend the
50th anniversary celebrations of The Battle of The Hook from July
24 to 27 2003, at Samichon Lines, Lavarack Barracks, Townsville.
The celebrations will include a re-enactment of the battle, an
open day and a battalion dinner and ball.
Those wishing to attend can contact Maj Lowes on: (07) 4771 7136
or e-mail: russ.lowes@defence.gov.au
