ARMY engineers will soon get civilian recognition, after an agreement
was signed with the Institution of Engineers Australia.
The
agreement, signed by DCA Maj-Gen Frank Roberts and CEO Institution
of Engineers Australia John Boshier, means the establishment of
a professional development program for land-based engineers.
This
will ensure engineers exercising technical authority undergo structured
professional development and have their competencies assessed and
recognised by an independent authority.
Denis
Eisenbise, Acting Director of Technical Regulation Army (DTR-A),
said there were benefits for the Army and individuals involved in
the program.
The
Army will meet its duty of care by having a professional development
program in place and can be sure the advice from its engineers is
in line with worlds best practice, he said.
The
individual will be put on the National Professional Engineers Register
and have the right to add Chartered Professional Engineer after
their name both are big ticks in the credibility box.
DTR-A
will administer a pilot program involving 40 electrical, mechanical
and civil engineers this financial year.

DCA Maj-Gen Frank Roberts was recently recognised for his achievements
as an engineer by being made a fellow of the Institution of Engineers
Australia. Maj-Gen Roberts received the honour while the agreement
was signed between the Army and the institution to establish a
professional development plan for Army engineers.
