New airspace protocols now operating

ALL aircraft flying in Australia are now subject to new airspace architecture based on the proven US National Airspace System (NAS).

The new protocols, affecting all Defence pilots and air traffic controllers, came into effect on November 28.

Transition to the new airspace design will be phased in over four stages, with the final stage being phased in from 2004.

Detailed information on the NAS project can be found at www.dotars.gov.au/airspacereform
