Put it on the calendar

By Cpl Jonathan Garland
UNITS looking to put their activities on the Defence calendar now have the opportunity to do exactly that.

The Defence Events Calendar has been designed to advertise all activities in the ADF in the same place, so commanders and units have a single point of reference for planning purposes.

Project Manager Jane Speechley said the site updates an older version of the calendar and meets the Recruitment Communications Team’s need to promote their events.

“The new corporate identity needed to be reflected in the site and it was decided to roll that in with the recruitment calendar to most efficiently use resources,” she said.

Members wanting to advertise their unit event can add to the calendar by obtaining a user name and password through the intranet site.

Once you have access, you are directed to a form that prompts you to list all the details of your event.

All proposed events are subject to approval by the administrator and will not be visible on the site until approval is granted.

Events include ceremonies, anniversaries, ship commissionings, open days and sporting events.

“Anything that’s important to Defence or has an impact on Defence activities, we want to see on the calendar.”

It has a comprehensive search function that allows the user to locate events of specific types in specific locations or time frames around Australia.

“We’re really keen to see people using it – once you make it part of your planning and forecasting process, it will become an extremely valuable tool.”

The site is accessible through the Defence intranet home page by accessing the ‘information resource’ drop-down menu and clicking on ‘calendar – events’.

There is a comprehensive user manual available from the administrator and a presentation on using the site can be arranged by request.
