And the band played on

MUSICAL members and former members converged on Wagga Wagga in October to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of AAB Kapooka.

Activities included a display of band memorabilia, photographs and some paintings of band activities in the region by local artist Willy Sheapher.

Dignitaries included Commandant ARTC Col Richard Stanhope, the Federal Member for Riverina Kay Hull and former and current AABC Honourary Colonels Brigs Jim Shelton and Ian Hearn.

The display at the old Wagga Wagga Council Chambers was open for a week from October 26 to November 3.

The band hosted an anniversary dinner at Charles Sturt University’s convention centre on October 26, where about 140 guests celebrated the 50-year milestone.

Mrs Hull presented the band, on behalf of Prime Minister John Howard, a photograph of the Prime Minister with the band at Parliament House and a personally signed letter of congratulations.

The band gave a free concert at the Wollundry Lagoon Amphitheatre on October 31 and more than 2000 members of the Wagga Wagga community attended to help celebrate the band’s milestone.
