WITH twice the reason to celebrate, 103 Sig Sqn had a birthday parade and acknowledged the last time the squadron will stand together as an independent unit.

Next year, 103 Sig Sqn will form part of 3CSR.

Members were promoted and some received special commendation during the birthday parade.

SSM 103 Sig Sqn WO2 Michael Ruane was promoted to WO1, appointed RSM and received a 1 Div Commander’s commendation for his role as SSM of the squadron over the past three years.

WO1 Ruane said he had enjoyed Townsville immensely and was a little sad to leave it behind, emphasising that young soldiers in particular can really get ahead by being an active part of the regiment.

“It is great to see the evolution of 3CSR and it is the signals testimony to a job well done,” he said.

WO1 Ruane has been posted to 8 Sig Regt at Randwick.

103 Signal Sqn provides communications support to 3 Bde in the field.

The squadron was raised during the Vietnam War and has since continued to be a vital part of overseas operations including East Timor, Cambodia, Somalia, Rwanda and Bougainville.

Under the RHQ of 3CSR, 103 Sig Sqn will continue the same role.
