Track event format change

JANUARY’S ADF Track and Field Championships received a welcome boost recently with Tenix Defence Systems offering to continue sponsorship of the event.

For several years, Tenix has been the major sponsor of the championships which next year will take place on January 25-26 at Albury’s Alexandra Park.

The championships are open to all ADF personnel including reservists and defence civilians.

For the first time the championships will be held as part of the Victorian Country Championships, providing the opportunity for Defence athletes to compete alongside (or in front of) civilian athletes.

It is also hoped that this format will provide a big carnival atmosphere by sheer weight of numbers competing.

There will be age categories to encourage greater participation. The categories of open, veteran (40-44 years) and masters (45+ yrs) for men and open (up to 34 yrs) and veteran (35+ yrs) for women will make for exciting competition.

With a full program of events to choose from, electronic timing, top-class facilities and competition spread over two days, the championships are promising a great weekend of competition.

  • All enquiries should be directed to Sgt Rob Combe on (02) 9600 2416 or 0438 699 079. Entry forms are available on the ADF Sports Council web site at defweb.cbr.defence.gov.au/adfsc
