A year away to study info ops

AN OFFICER at Army Headquarters is preparing for a year away from his desk after winning a prestigious grant for further study.

Capt Jeff Malone, Future Land Warfare Branch, has been awarded the 2003 CDF Scholarship.

CDF Gen Peter Cosgrove and Rector of University College, ADFA, Prof Robert King presented the award to Capt Malone in September.

The scholarship gives Capt Malone 12 months full-time study to complete his PhD on information operations through the University of New South Wales at ADFA and the $15,000 travelling allowance will provide him the opportunity to conduct further research into his topic and other related areas of study.

Open to tertiary graduates, the scholarship may be awarded to any permanent ADF member who can demonstrate an ability to research and produce an academic paper at an advanced level. But the field of study must be deemed relevant to Defence.

Selection for the scholarship occurs in June of each year, with study to be undertaken in the following calendar year.

  • Further information is available from Gavin Kearney, Defence Education and Training Policy Branch in Defence Personnel Executive, at gavin.kearney@defence.gov.au
