UNMISET Peacekeeping Force Commander, Maj-Gen Tan Huck Gim, paid tribute to the United Nations Chief Military Observer in East Timor, Brig Gen Paulo Pereira Guerreiro, who died last month.

Brig-Gen Guerreiro, who was 55 years old, died in Dili and there were no suspicious circumstances.

He had been the UN Chief Military Observer in East Timor since July this year, and had previously served as the PKF’s Chief of Staff.

A memorial service was held at Comoro Airport attended by East Timor’s Prime Minister Mari Alkatari, Secretary of State for Defence, Roqe Rodriques, Chief of the Falintil-FDTL, Brig-Gen Taur Matan Ruak and members of the PKF.
