THE Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) and soldiers from the Aviation
Support Group Workshop (ASGW) were winners at the World Lizard Racing
Championships held at Eulo-Cunnamulla in outback Queensland.
The
Oakey-based ASGW team set out to raise money for the RFDS and proved
successful, with the team contributing over $200 to the charity.
The
festival was held during four days with activities ranging from
a float parade through the main streets of Cunnamulla to novelty
sporting activities, which the ASGW team participated in and, in
some cases, excelled.
The
notable team performers were Cfn Leighton Arnott, who took first
place in the Bag and Clothes changing race and the egg-catching
competition partnered by Cfn Jeremy Summers.
The
pair continued their winning streak as part of the victorious No
Water Regatta team.
The
ASGW team came second in the Tug-of-War competition to a capable
team of fencing contractors.
The
festivals premiere event gave spectators the opportunity to
bid for racing shingleback lizards at auction, the proceeds going
to the RFDS.
For
the ASGW team it was as a great opportunity to compete as it was
rewarding.
The
RFDS and festival organisers have indicated they would like the
ASGW team to return to defend their titles in next years competition.
