Are
you a keen snapper or do mates comment you should enter your photos
in competitions?
Here's your chance to show the ADF what you are capable of with
a camera in your hand.
Army,
Navy and Airforce newspapers are looking for Defence's best amateur
photographers through their inaugural ADF Amateur Photography Competition.
The
rules are simple:
It
is open to all members of the ADF, excluding members whose trade,
rating, or ECN is as a photographer.
Photographs
must depict an aspect of life in the ADF and must be suitable for
publication in a 'family newspaper'.
There
are four categories:
- best
photo
- best
black and white photo
- best
digitally created photo, and
- best
sports-adventurous training photo.
Significant
prizes are to be confirmed and will be announced in the next editions
of the service newspapers.
There
is also a special prize -- the Harry Burton Memorial Award.
This
award is to honour the memory of Australian cameraman and journalist
Harry Burton who was killed in Afghanistan on November 19, 2001.
The
winner will be selected by his family.
CDF
Gen Peter Cosgrove suggested to the service newspapers that this
award be named after Harry who he had met during INTERFET.
Gen
Cosgrove said Harry had been a compassionate person who was well
regarded and respected by ADF personnel in East Timor.
"This
award recognises the dedication that Harry had for his profession.
He will always be remembered for his tireless efforts in capturing
images of Australian Defence Force men and women in action,"
he said.
Harry's
father, Harry Burton Senior, said the Burton family was deeply touched
and honoured by the naming of the award.
"Harry
loved his job. Telling true stories through his camera lens is what
he did best and to have the ADF recognise this will encourage military
personnel with a passion for photography to do likewise," Mr
Burton said.
