THE
South East Queensland Army Golf team retained the annual Inter-Service
Golf Championships for the fifth consecutive year recently, defeating
the RAAF.
Games
were played at the Bribie Island Golf Club using the President
Cup format, with foursomes the first day, followed by fourball
and finishing with singles.
Army
Team captain Maj Dave Elliott, said the team was the strongest
it had been for a number of years.
With
young players like LCpl Scott Boyle, 2HSB, and Gnr David Schwartz,
131 STA Bty, the Army team is building for the future, he
said.
Seven
foursome games were played with the Army jumping to a quick lead
of 52.
The
next day the RAAF changed their order, mixing some of their more
seasoned players with some new golfers to try and bridge the gap
with little success.
Army
won the fourball 61 to extend the lead to 11-3.
On
the final day 14 singles matches were played with the Army triumphant
by a massive 11.5 to 2.5.
