RADIO waves seem to produce the finest athletes in 3 Bde with members of 103 Sig Sqn consistently blitzing athletic competition.

Sig Tanya Murdoch dominates the pool and runners beware, Capt Ana Duncan will defend her titles and probably leave a blazed trail in her path.

Since primary school, Sig Murdoch has been in the pool, running half-marathons and has played all the usual team sports to a high standard.

The 2002 ADF cross-country champion is rather shy and bashful about her natural ability to stun the brigade in and out of the pool.

Most people in the region would remember Sig Murdoch performing like Ian Thorpe’s little sister in last year’s brigade swimming carnival – she is expected to do just as well this year.

Sig Murdoch is a radio operator and said that she enjoys the unit tempo and that Townsville was a great place to be outdoors.

“I love being out and about, I bushwalk and mountain bike ride and I recently brought a sea kayak. I would love to get into some competition which involved each of these activities,” she said.

“The squadron is very high tempo particularly at this time of year so unfortunately we can’t be here to compete in all the events.”

Capt Duncan, 2IC 103 Sig Sqn, is the fastest female on any track in the brigade and around Townsville’s local running circuits.

She is a two-time ADF cross country champion, won Best Female at the brigade cross-country competition and is the fastest person in the squadron.

Capt Duncan has participated in road marathons around Townsville for the past few years rarely performing anything less of fantastic coming in mostly first place for the female category.

She said the natural ability to run and compete for her was fostered at Little Athletics and school competitions.

The squadron’s PTI Cpl Simon O’Regan, is her only rival for the fastest times – he is Townsville’s male athletics champion and has consistently won brigade cross country competition.
