A marathon life of achievement

WO1 Alan “Blue” Ingram collapsed and died on August 2 at Simpson Barracks after completing a BFA.

Born at the British Military Hospital in Hong Kong on August 2, 1956, Alan moved to Australia in 1968 and enlisted in the Army on April 23, 1974.

Postings to 8/12 Mdm Regt and 2/10 Mdm Regt followed before he moved to the Army Support Unit in Darwin and later to SCMA where he corps transferred to RAAOC and was promoted to WO1 in 1996.

WO1 Ingram completed a two-year appointment at the Defence Advisor’s Office in Kuala Lumpur before returning to HQ 4 Bde in 2001.

WO1 Ingram was born to run. He was cross-country champion at school and continued his love of long distance running throughout his military career.

In the 1988 Anzac Day Marathon he crossed the line in a time of 2 hours and 40 mintues, which enabled him to compete in the Around Australia Relay Marathon the same year.

He married Samantha in 1994 and was the proud and devoted father of Luke. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his one-liners and his dry sense of humour. He made an outstanding contribution to his nation, the Army and to his community.

A funeral and burial service for WO1 Ingram was conducted at the Bunurong Memorial Park in Melbourne on August 9.
