Soldiers from JMCO Melbourne had a part to play in Op Slipper recently, assisting with the final leg home of the newly returned 16 AD Regt contingent.

Under the command of Lt Brett Green, JMCO personnel co-ordinated the transport of 9500kg of cargo from HMAS Manoora to Adelaide by road, before arranging the redeployment of 23 soldiers to the Woodside based 16 Ad Regt by civilian aircraft.

The operation was a success, with all equipment and personnel reachingtheir destinations safely.

Consisting primarily of reserve personnel based in Melbourne, Puckapunyal and Hobart, JMCO Melbourne provides constant support in the deployment and redeployment of Defence personnel within Australia and overseas.

Typical tasks include moving general cargo, armoured vehicles and personnel by land, sea and air, and the unit maintains close relations with civilian transport systems and government organisations.

JMCO Melbourne has personnel deployed on Op Slipper, in East Timor and aboard HMAS Kanimbla.
