LOGISTICS in Northern Queensland has taken on a fresh face with the unveiling of Joint Logistics Unit North Queensland (JLU-NQ).

Previously operating as the Northern Logistic Group Townsville (NLG-T) under JLU-SQ, the unit focused firmly on providing quality logistic support to many Defence customers in the region and had maintained contracts with local business.

CO Lt-Col David Stevens said internal and external customers could expect the same high level of support they had previously had with NLG-T.

"This unit's independent identity can only enhance the services provided and encourage us to forge ahead," he said.

Lt-Col Stevens said Joint Logistic Command agreed that a very powerful tool had now been established in the north Queensland region.

Joint Logistic Command Chief of Staff Cmdr Denis Mole said NLG-T had set the benchmark for services in North Queensland and he anticipated JLU-NQ would raise the level of professionalism and dedication even further.

As the inaugural CO of the unit, Lt-Col Stevens unveiled the JLU-NQ sign on a special family activities day.

Lt-Col Stevens said the family day, which was organised to acknowledge the contribution of family and friends, was a good indicator of the expectation of harmony within JLU-NQ's working and social agenda.

"Families are the backbone of JLU-NQ and play an important role in the unit meeting its obligations."
Activities at the family day included beach cricket, touch, sand castle building, sack races and egg-and-spoon races and culminated in a formal dining-in night for the unit's Senior NCOs, officers and civilian equivalents.
