PRE-DEPLOYMENT training is now at the cutting edge with the merging of HQ LCBS and Battle Wing to become the Combat Training Centre.
The CTC was raised as a unit in Townsville on May 1 and integrates elements of the Land Command Battle School and the Combat Training Centre (Battle Command).
In its role of providing subunit-training, the new establishment includes live fire facilities at High Range Training Area, a capability to deploy to units' own training areas, and is headquartered at Lavarack Barracks.
Col Mick Moon, Commander CTC said the centre's establishment was an ongoing process.
"The decision was made last November to continue with the next step of the CTC project, that is the formal establishment of the Combat Training Centre in Townsville," he said.
"The CTC will provide a single, powerful methodology for the practice and measurement of collective combat skills in as near possible an operational environment.
"It will employ a high level of instrumentation and weapons effects simulations, coupled with a well trained, thinking and professional OPFOR.
"The CTC will be be able to portray likely Australian operational scenarios involving a large range of potential deployments against a broad range of threats.
"These scenarios will range from Peace Operations through to mid-intensity conflict."
Col Moon said the CTC would continue to provide a focus on the close country specialisation for which Australian soldiers are renowned.
"A key element of the CTC's effort will continue to be the provision of specialised training in tactical collective skills in close country," he said.
"CTC will maintain the previous approach and training methodology of the Army's premier jungle training establishment at Tully in North Queensland."
"This approach will provide high quality one-on-one coaching and training.
"The CTC will be able to conduct live and simulated command post training simultaneously within a single tactical scenario thus allowing the synchronising of a range of collective skills in combat units concurrently."
