Triathlon brings out the best

ALMOST
100 competitors took part in the Tenix Australian Services Triathlon Association
competition on February 15 at Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera.
The
race consisted of a 2km run, followed by a 200m swim, then a 24km bike
ride, back into the pool for a 400m swim and finishing off with a 4km
run.
Overall male winner was Cfn Ryan Mayne, 171 Sqn, with
a time of 1hr 13min 22sec.
Second placed men's overall was Cpl Wayne Claydon,
1 Int, in 1hr 15min 26sec and third was Cpl Andrew Gibbs, 2HSB, 1hr 16min
21sec.
Overall female winner was WO2 Shelley Foster, APA-B,
coming in at 1hr 20min 10sec in 11th position overall.
Second went to Lt Kylie De Wright, TTC, 1hr 40min
20sec, with Lt Helen Lamb, TTC, finishing third in 1hr 51min 29sec.
Pte David Walsh, 6RAR, came up trumps in the male
24 years and under category with a time of 1hr 19min 22sec.
The 25 to 35 year age group winners were Capt Peter
Young, 1 Avn Regt, in 1hr 20min 16sec, and Lt Helen Lambe, TTC, in 1hr
51min 29sec.
Maj Jeff Rudd, RTC, took out the 35 years and over
age group - the 45-year-old completed the course in 1hr 14min 49sec, giving
him sixth place overall.
At the presentation ceremony, 7 Bde Deputy Commander
Col Dennis Scanlan paid tribute to the entrants, saying "the event
was well supported, particularly from 7 Bde" and went on to say "this
event certainly brings out the competitive nature in those involved".
Race organiser Cpl Ian Mirfield said he was very happy
to see the support for the growing sport of triathlon and offered thanks
to his fellow PTIs, the MPs, catering staff, and all of the helpers and
sponsors.
"In particular I would like to thank our major
sponsors, Tenix (naming rights sponsor), Uncle Toby's, Frontline and ADI,
along with local sponsors Astro Bikes Alderley, A-Mart Allsports and The
Fitness Connection," he said.
