Staff from SFTC conducted the first series of barrier tests for special forces hopefuls at Jordan Lines in Holsworthy recently.

More than 300 full-time and part-time members from across the ADF volunteered for service in the SF Group - both for commandos and SASR.

After being reviewed medically and psychologically, a panelling board decided who would attend the thirty-six-hour activity.

These intensive physical and mental assessments decide the applicants' suitability for further training.

Success offers a soldier, progression to Commando Induction Training, or a spot on an upcoming SASR Selection Course.

OC Selection Wing SFTC Maj Matt Brennan said barrier testing provided a snapshot of the makeup of the individual candidate.

"Applicants are all-ranks, and are volunteers who have realised that there is more to life in the ADF than conventional service," he said.

"Those who are successful are fit, highly motivated, possess high personal and professional standards, and are 100 per cent committed to a career within Special Forces

"SFTC will be conducting another series of SFBT mid year, and dates for these, as well as the SASR Selection and Commando Induction Courses for 2002 will be promulgated soon," he said.

Notification will be via signal, the DEFWEB and service newspapers.
