Try and beat this, Tarzan

February 28, 2002

ANY scared members of 1HSB could at least be reassured by the first aid capacity standing-by when they stepped off the Sydney Harbour Bridge in an adventurous training abseiling activity recently.

Sixty-three members of the hospital unit, from private to major, spent the day facing the dizzying effects of height and the harbour winds when they undertook a 40m warm-up followed by a full 100m descent.

1HSB PTI Sgt Peter Sheehy said all of the participants, who were incidentally new to abseiling, made a success of the activity.

"We had a couple of people who were a little bit scared but they faced the challenge and we didn't have a problem at all," he said.

"We are an operational unit and I do make sure these guys are ready at all times. They're ready to go at any time. In fact half of the unit is about to go to Timor now."
