DEPLOYMENT
FIFTEEN-hundred ADF personnel will be deployed by mid-November to
join the international war against terrorism. Prime Minister John
Howard announced on October 16 the Australian commitment to the international
coalition against the Al-Qaeda network and its allies, the Taliban
militia presently in control of much of Afghanistan. |

Commemoration
of Maryang San
FIFTY years ago this month 3RAR soldiers undertook what is considered
probably the greatest Australian accomplishment of the Korean War.
To this day the Battle of Maryang San is considered a benchmark for
unit level offensive operations in our army. |

Chook tests
longer legs on snow run
AVIATORS from 5 Avn Regt successfully deployed the regiment's latest
acquisition - an extended-range fuel system (ERFS) fitted to the Army's
fleet of Chinook helicopters. Introduced into service two months ago,
the ERFS has a dual function, extending the range of the Chinooks
as well as doubling as a forward air refuelling point for other rotary
wing aircraft.. |

ADF feedback on the proposed changes will form the basis for CDF Adm
Chris Barrie's response to Government to be delivered in February
