PRECISION and strength come to mind when thinking about equestrian sports and a recent competition allowed a soldier to show her stuff.

Sig Emma Longmire, 7 Sig Regt, Cabarlah, a member of the Australian Army Equestrian Association (AAEA)and her horse Paddy's Punt competed recently at Berrima One-Day-Event.

One-day-events consist of three disciplines of equestrian competition, dressage, show jumping and cross-country.

Competing in uniform, Sig Longmire placed 13th in stiff competition in the dressage.

The show jumping phase consists of eight to ten jumps over approximately 500 metres. This event proved a strength for the team, losing only one rail.

By far Sig Longmire's best ride was in the cross-country.

Cross-country is a series of 20-25 jumps reaching heights over a metre over a three kilometre course.

Sig Longmire had a clear round, with no time penalties, placing her 9th overall in the Pre-Novice.

She said she trained her horse daily and enjoyed the fitness and discipline of competitive equestrian events.

"I am currently in hard training in the lead up to higher-level competition over the winter period."
