Showing how it’s done

The ship’s company of HMAS Gawler has shown a group of international Air Force officers how it is done when it comes to intercepting, hailing and escalation of force needed to stop a suspect vessel.

During the drill, Gawler’s snatch party did a non-compliant boarding on the Defence Maritime Service’s vessel Seahorse Kowari as she acted the part of a wanted foreign fishing vessel.

Watching from Gawler were air force officers from Indonesia, Kuwait, Jordan, Japan, Malysia, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Republic of Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

The visiting air force officers were in Australia as part of the Foreign Observers Programme associated with Exercise Pitch Black, the massive air exercise conducted in the Northern Territory during July.
