The Harman Seadogs Rugby League team narrowly missed a place in the grand final of the Canberra Third Division competition after an attempted comefrom-behind win failed to eventuate.

The Seadogs, who finished second on the ladder after the home and away season, lost to Crookwell 22-16 in the preliminary final at Seiffert Oval, Queanbeyan on Sunday, September 8.

In the club’s 30th anniversary season, Harman trailed 18-0 at half-time, but with the aid of a strong wind in the second half, the players rallied and almost pulled off a remarkable victory.

With the score at 18-6, the Seadogs let Crookwell in for a try against the run of play and a 22-6 scoreline seemed too much to peg back.

But with Harman posting two tries, the score was 22-16 with 10 minutes to go.

Harman then had three tries sensationally disallowed after players were held up over the line, the last one ruled to have been knocked on.

From there, Crookwell took possession and held on until full-time, ending Harman’s premiership hopes in the process.

Meanwhile, rugby league players in the ADF can look forward to the ADF national titles in Sydney from October 3-7 (see page 23 for full story).
