Canberra station heritage
Belconnen tours on offer

An invitation has been extended to current and ex-Navy personnel to visit the Navy Transmitting Station in Belconnen. Bookings are essential as a limited number of guided tours will be conducted of the main building and immediate vicinity by appointment on August 29 and 30. The Transmitting Station, which ceased operations on June 30, 2005, is heritage listed and a wide range of equipment not selected by Defence for re-use remains intact, albeit not operational. The future management of the site will be subject to a heritage management plan and all activities will be conducted in accordance with legislative heritage requirements. Top prizes up for grabs
Peter Mitchell nominees sought

Nominations for the 2006 Peter Mitchell Prize are open until October 6. The Peter Mitchell Prize awards provide recognition to an outstanding and exceptional officer, senior sailor and junior sailor selected from a combined pool. The prize winners are awarded a CN Commendation and badge plus a cash prize of $1500.
Commanding officers are to give consideration to both permanent and Reservist personnel in nomination for the prizes. Administrative authorities are requested to encourage interest and awareness of these prizes within their areas.

All nominations are to include the following:
a narrative (at least one A4 size) addressing the selection criteria;
a draft CN Commendation of between 150-180 words or 3-4 paragraphs.
Note, there is no longer a requirement to provide a special performance appraisal report. Nominations are to be forwarded through the chain of command to the Director General Navy Personnel and Training, R8-1-016, Russell Offices, ACT 2600.
