Training options now greater

Volume 49, No. 15, August 24 , 2006

Defending Australia demands that Navy is an innovative, responsive and adaptive organisation, with a highly trained workforce.

Navy training takes many forms and now includes a range of online options through a new partnership between Defence and SkillSoft, a world leader in Commercial-Off-The-Shelf eLearning courses.

SkillSoft also works with the United States military and has an extensive eLearning library, ranging from courses on leadership and communication to project and risk management.
The Defence partnership with SkillSoft will provide cost-effective solutions to give Navy access to better learning opportunities.

The appointment of SkillSoft will further enhance Defence’s eLearning environment, adding to the already impressive achievements of the in-house eLearning system, CAMPUS.

Since CAMPUS went online in November 2003, there have been 244 eLearning courses introduced, with 210,000 enrolments and 130,000 courses completed.

CAMPUS won last year’s education and academia category in the Computerworld 21st Century achievement awards and continues to provide affordable and accessible quality training to Navy.
Announcing the eLearning partnership, the Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence, Bruce Billson, said the Government was “committed to the Australian Defence Force being an employer of choice that provides best quality services and learning opportunities for Defence military and civilian personnel”.

Glenn Nott, the Vice President of SkillSoft Asia-Pacific said his company had provided eLearning solutions to about 500 organisations.
